Quilt Bungee Clamps not Gripping - Quilt Has Extreme Bouncing while Quilting
Hello!
I've had this problem since buying my HQ Amara. The bungee clamps do not grip the quilt top well. They slip off whenever I pull them taut. When I can get them to grip, the quilt is so loose that stitching makes it bounce. That's no good for learning FMQ.
I've tried putting HandiGrip on the "pad" portion of them. It doesn't stay on the clamps and they just slip off anyway. It seems like there just isn't enough grip on the grips.
I've thought of buying construction clamps and attaching those instead, so I could ratchet them down. That is no guarantee of working and the grips on them aren't any better, just the clamping pressure.
How can I fix this so my quilt doesn't bounce while quilting?

LeAnn,
When you attach the clamps, are you pulling the bungees so that the actual bungee is being stretched?
We usually tell people to not pull super tight but just enough to add a little tension on the side. The fabric should not get distorted.
If you continue to have issues, I would recommend that you contact your local retailer or call Handi Quilter.

Hi Kristina!
I am pulling the bungees so they are slightly stretched. I'm not distorting the fabric, but holding it smooth and flat, and trying to keep it from bouncing. If I leave it looser, it bounces too much for me to see what I'm doing well. And it sags. I have to keep it loose enough for the ruler base to move, in any case. I've been aiming for something more like an embroidery hoop, without being super tight. Just something to keep it stabilized.
I'll check with my retailer this weekend.
Thanks!
