    Kate,

Are you using a full bobbin? Sometimes this occurs if the bobbin is too full. Try pulling some of the thread off. You can also try using a partial bobbin to test to see if that is the problem.

If you decide to buy a new spring, you can get it from your local retailer to through Handi Quilter.

    Dear Kristina

My bobbin was not full.  I did try using a different bobbin, but the problem persisted.  I am in Phoenix, AZ, and my local retailer who carries HQ is Mulqueens.  Do I need to contact them to ask for them to order the brake spring from you?  Or can I skip the middle man and just order directly from you?  I have searched both Mulqueen's and Handi Quilter's websites (the Shop Online sections) and neither show M size bobbin brake springs for sale.  I appreciate your help in this,

P.S. I do have a spare bobbin case.  I put the bobbin that was getting tangled into this other bobbin case, and thankfully, there were no problems with the thread getting caught under the brake spring.  But now I do not have a reliable "back up" bobbin case.  Hope this additional information helps you diagnose my problem.
