Quilting around appliques

    Dear Maria,

Thanks for your questions.  Have you seen two of our HQ Lives featuring Susan Manry from Dec 2018 and Feb 2019?  Susan teaches about many of the types of techniques you are talking about.

Here are a few tips to help you get a good spacing around your applique.  I like to use the hopping foot - which gives me an accurate 1/4" measurement from the edge of the applique - to set up my area when cropping out around an applique.  Leaving that amount of space allows for a little bit of wiggle room so if my multi-point area marks are a little off it doesn't infringe on my applique. Next, use A LOT of multi-points.  The more you use, the accurate your area will be. Also, try keeping your quilt very securely held in place by basting down your sides and using your side clamps.

    Best Regards,
